Now resting with his Lord Jesus Christ, Gordon Ian Sisco, born April 29, 1943 in Thunder Bay. He was predeceased by his parents Margart Brehm and Ellis Sisco.
Gordon, primarily known as Papa Gord, leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years Beverley Sisco nee Coulson, and three daughters: Margaret (Warren) Gosselin, Dawn (James) Lambert, Shelley (Chris) Serbyn; grandchildren Ashley (Rob Paterson), Tylar Gosselin, Marianne, Elizabeth and Paul Serbyn; great-grandchildren Emily, Alexander, Georgia, Abagail, Annabelle and Brookelynne; special family include Pam and Terry Munn, Jessica (Ryan) Fodchuk; siblings Ron (Kate) Sisco, Patsy Hendry, Doug (Leslie), John, Donald Baird and Families.
Gord was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Ellis; in-laws Belle and Raymond; granddaughter Rhiannah Gosselin; brothers Hugh Sisco and Robert Baird.
Papa Gord spent time in the Army as a young man before marrying Bev and when they began to build their life he got his Engineers papers, working many jobs and growing their family. Being an outdoors loving man they settled in on River Road. Unfortunately, a fire took their home and they had to rebuild. That home brought fond memories, whether it was running his tractor, playing with the dogs, tending to the ducks and other wild life, working in his shop and teaching his daughters and eventually grandchildren many useful skills. During this time he was working at Riverside Hospital in maintenance and laundry, until his retirement. When the time for change came up, Gord and Bev started a new chapter in their life by purchasing the Rainbow Motel. New challenges arose and together with their faith in the Lord the business was a success. Gord made many friends throughout his life and many conversations were had in Canadian Tire, because if you ran into him anywhere that would be the place and he would always make time to chat.
Then came a difficult turn, Gord was diagnosed with Dementia. The decline happened over 10 years and beside him the entire time was his family, and the church. Special moments for Papa Gord were singing and dancing to his favourite music/hymns, they always brought light into his smile, while holding his wife’s hand, and watching the young kids playing around.
Papa Gord is now peacefully resting forever in our hearts.
The family would rather donations made to Camp Haven, Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, or a charity of your choice instead of flowers.
A celebration of life will be held later in January 2026 at Victory Baptist Church, date to be announced.
