Yikes: it always seems a bit scary when you see December 1st on your calendar! We are trying to cut back on gifts this year but there are still a few special people that I want to gift something. Honestly, I love giving gifts, it is just figuring out what to give most of the time. I still enjoy decorating and spending time with everyone while slowing life down just a little bit. I miss my dad at this time of the year even more, as he would be busy getting his favorite blue lights up outside and telling us how to decorate the tree. We also had to hide the jewelry flyers that end up in your mail this time of the year because he loved to buy my jewelry. I have not finished my light display outside but for some reason it isn’t even stressing me out! I work away at it and one day I will decide that is enough. I haven’t started with any greenery, but I usually do that once lights are up. It is slowly looking like Christmas, at least outside!
I also had a barn project going on and we officially crossed that off the list on Sunday. Shane, Greg and Reed came over after a morning hunt, and we put my shed back together and replaced the wooden manger with steer feeding panels. I think it should be slick, but we will see once calving rolls around. I now must start planning getting the cows all home for deworming and scour vaccines. Currently, I am feeding them at the back of my place, and they are walking to the beaver pond for water, but I am not sure how long they will access water there and we don’t have much snow yet. They are very content and I love that they are busy spreading their own manure!
I was planning to be in Calgary this week from Wednesday to Friday to attend a Beef Cattle Research Council meeting, but I asked for a zoom link. It was too much travel as next Sunday I will be off to Toronto / Guelph for the Beef Farmers of Ontario. It was too much time away and what is often forgotten is the fact that I have a fair bit of travel to and from an airport! Zoom isn’t ideal, but it is better than not attending at all.
Last week my mom and I made a day trip to Winnipeg. We had a few items that M & M were looking for but most of them were out of stock so they had to be ordered and shipped, but my mom was able to stock up on her baking supplies, so it was deemed a success. Neither one of us are great shoppers and we tend to power out after a few stores. We always have high hopes of really hitting things hard but that is not the case.
I hope you all are getting into the Christmas spirit!
