If you’re tired of the snow and the cold, there’s one sure way to drive away the blues—with the annual “Pop Your Winter Blues” concert at the Emo Legion this Friday (Jan. 26) at 7 p.m.
With proceeds going towards projects for the Emo Public Library and the Emo and District Hospital Auxiliary, the event will feature the Borderland Community Orchestra, refreshments, and a silent auction.
EPL head librarian Shirley Sheppard noted last year’s event had a winter theme, so the group decided to go with something different this year to “warm it up a little bit.”
Most of the music will be familiar tunes, with selections from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Harry Potter,” “Jaws,” and much more.
And there will be several breaks between the musical performance, during which people can browse and bid on the multitude of items in the silent auction.
All items were donated by local businesses and individuals, with Sheppard stressing there’s something for everyone.
Not only will the music offer a wide variety, but there also will be items in the silent auction that everyone will enjoy—from toys and books to household items, a musical instrument, and other surprise articles.
Geoff Pearce is set to be the emcee and there will be students helping out during the evening.
Those attending are being encourage to dress in the spirit of the event, with Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts.
Sheppard noted the event has been a great success in the past and although the Friends of the Library hold different fundraisers throughout the year, the “Pop Your Winter Blues” is one of the more popular ones.
She added everyone is invited to come out, reminding people that the Emo Public Library also serves La Vallee, Chapple, and Morley.
Tickets, which cost $10 for adults and $5 for children, can be purchased in advance at Cloverleaf Shop Easy or the EPL, or at the door.
