A Thunder Bay man has been fined $500 for illegal deer hunting.
Gerald P. Gouliquer, 69, pleaded guilty to hunting white-tailed deer during the closed season. He forfeited the deer to the Crown.
Court was told that on Oct. 27, the OPP called a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer from Fort Frances District to assist with an incident north of Pinewood.
The conservation officer determined Gouliquer had used a rifle to shoot and kill an antlerless white-tailed deer two days before the rifle season opened and while the archery season was still in progress.
Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case Jan. 11 in Atikokan.
The ministry reminds the public that hunting regulations and seasons ensure the sustainability of wildlife populations and give hunters a fair chance to participate.
