Muskies open with two losses

The Muskie boys’ curling squad hit some bumps in the ice yesterday during their first day of action at the all-Ontario championships in St. Thomas.
Skip Adam Bolen and his 12th-ranked team of third Brendon Loney, second Jason Pattison, and leads Joey Wensley and David Kaun came within a hair—literally —of pulling off a major upset in a 7-6 extra-end loss in their opener against fifth-ranked Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes.
“The boys had a great game,” Muskie coach Tom Fry said from St. Thomas this morning. “But [one of their shots] picked up a hair in the seventh end that turned the game around.”
The afternoon draw was not near as thrilling for the local rink, who were beaten 7-2 in six ends by 13th-ranked Ancaster.
“Our guys came out cold and just couldn’t put it together,” said Fry, whose team faced fourth-ranked Markville Secondary School (Markham) this morning, losing 8-4 to sit at 0-3.
The squad then was to finish round-robin play in Pool ‘D’ this afternoon against 17th-ranked Erindale Secondary School (Mississauga) at 12:30 p.m. (CST).
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarter-finals, which are scheduled to begin today at 4:30 p.m.
