Bazil’

The family of Shane (Bazil) Copenace announce his passing on October 7, 2025, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Bazil was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 15, 1989, to Judy Ann Copenace and Warren Russell Disbrowe.

Bazil was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his sisters and brothers and cousins alike. During his early years he enjoyed being with family and spending time with friends.

He had a passion for movies and could be heard reciting lines by memory from his favourites.

Bazil graduated from high school and went on to achieve his welding certificate, completing all his requirements/tickets.

Bazil returned home to Big Grassy First Nation in 2018. It was where he found his true calling and love of his life, Kylo, his precious son.

There was nothing in his life he was more proud of than him. He loved each member of his family with all he had.

Left to cherish his memory is Kylo Copenace (son); his father Russell Bisbrowe; brother Daniel Copenace, Darren Copenace (Michelle), Dwight Disbrowe; Sisters Alexx Copenace, Shayna Copenace (Mitch) and Chelsey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who he loved as his own.

He was predeceased by his mom Judy Ann Copenace; grandparents Lillian and Daniel, Alvin and Margaret Disbrowe; uncles Victor Copenace, Earl Disbrowe and John Copenace.

Pallbearers will be Mitchell Abraham, Delbert Copenace, Jordan Archie, Matt Copenace, Dennis Copenace and Koda Copenace.

A traditional wake was held on Saturday, October 25, at 4:00 p.m. at Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall, with a traditional service on Sunday, October 26, at 10:00 a.m. Elder Tommy Councillor officiated.
