Gobeil rink splits first six draws

The Scott Gobeil rink was 3-3 heading into play today at the 2004 Canadian Police Curling Championship in Hamilton.
The rink, representing Manitoba, was scheduled to play British Columbia this morning and then New Brunswick this afternoon.
The bonspiel started Sunday and will wrap up Saturday.
Gobeil, a local OPP officer, and his rink of third Dave Priestly and second Scott Bell, both of the Winnipeg Police Service, along with lead Dennis Smith, an OPP officer for 21 years, split their two draws Tuesday.
The rink went to extra ends against Alberta yesterday afternoon but gave up three in the 11th to fall 7-4.
It was a different story yesterday morning against Quebec, with Gobeil scoring five in the eighth en route to a 7-1 victory.
Gobeil opened the playdowns Sunday with an 8-6 win over the Northwest Territories, then needed an extra end to nip Team Canada 7-6.
But after starting off at 2-0, Gobeil went winless Monday to even his record at 2-2—losing 7-2 to Saskatchewan and then 6-2 to Ontario.
Ontario was in first place with a 4-1 heading into play today.
After the round-robin, the quarter-finals will begin Friday at 2 p.m. (CST). The semi-finals go Saturday at 7:30 a.m. (CST), with the final will set for 1 p.m. (CST).
Closing ceremonies and the banquet will follow.
One special addition to the playdowns this year was a visit from the Scottish police curling team, which has been touring Canada trying to find challengers.
They want to find the best police curling nation.
