The Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society will hold its annual meeting next Tuesday (Jan. 11) starting at 7:30 p.m. upstairs at the Emo/La Vallee Community Centre.
Memberships for the coming year may be purchased for $10 at the meeting (a membership is required to vote).
There also will be an election of officers and directors for 2011.
The RRVAS fall fair is an important event for Emo and the rest of the district. Consider offering your support to this hard-working group of volunteers by becoming a member and attending the annual meeting.

The Emo and District Lions Club plans to host a “Robbie Burns Dinner” on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Emo Legion. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by a roast beef dinner at 7 p.m.
Included in this traditional Scottish celebration will be the piping in of the haggis and a recitation of Burns’ famous, “Ode to the Haggis.”
A dance, featuring live music by local band “Centre-Line,” will round out the festivities.
Tickets cost $25 each, which can be purchased at Cloverleaf and Village Variety here in Emo, and Dr. Lidkea’s office in Fort Frances, as well as from Jim Martindale of the Voyageur Lions Club in Fort Frances, from members of the Emo and District Lions Club, and from Stewart Firth (482-1958).

The Emo and District Lions Club would like to thank everyone who donated to the “Polar Plunge” on New Year’s Day and congratulate their two brave jumpers, Dennis Ogilvie and Kent Ogden, for making the club’s first year of participation a success.
The club collected $968, which will be divided between four charities—the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Lions Club International Foundation, the Lions Eye Bank of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, and the Spring Point Project.
This research project, which is taking place at the University of Minnesota, consists of replacing the defective islets of the pancreas with pig islet cells—a procedure which potentially could eradicate diabetes.
Lions clubs across Canada and the United States are proud to be helping David Sutherland and Bernhard Hering in their long-standing goal of finding a cure for juvenile diabetes.

The New Year’s Eve dance held at the Emo Legion was well attended by people from across the district.
Despite the snowy weather, a large group of “old-time” country music fans gathered to listen to the “Country Jam” musicians, dance, and celebrate the arrival of 2011.
The next “Country Jam” at the Emo Legion will take place Friday, Jan. 14.
If you love “old-time” country music, and want to have a entertaining and fun-filled evening, mark the date on your calendar, plan to attend, and bring a friend!
