Men’s rinks advance

Three district curling rinks will compete at the Men’s Tankard association playdowns coming up Jan. 24-27 in Red Lake.
Lorne Jackson and Anthony Smaha of Fort Frances, along with Bryan Bonot of Stratton, automatically advanced when the zone playdown (scheduled to take place here last weekend) was cancelled due to a lack of teams.
“We needed more teams to have a competition,” Fort Frances Curling Club manager Rick Grenda explained. “It is disappointing in one way but it’s not in another.
“It’s great that we have teams going [to Red Lake] from here.”
The top rinks from the association playdowns advance to the provincial showdown slated Feb. 5-11 in Sudbury.
