Two junior rinks off to provincials

Two local junior curling rinks are off to Sault Ste. Marie this weekend (Jan. 11-13) to compete in the provincial championship after qualifying in Longlac this past weekend.
Making up the boys rink is Adam Bolen (skip), Dave Kaun (third), Mike Badiuk (second), and Travis Showalter and Sean Murray (sharing the position of lead).
The local junior women’s rink, which earned a provincial berth for the first time ever, is made up of Jenna Enge (skip), Megan Moate (third), Tireah Keffer (second), and Kathleen Murray and Sam Mueller (alternate leads).
The girls’ team is coached by Dave Bondett, assisted by Tom Fry, who is the coach for the junior men’s team.
Enge’s parents, Linda and Bill, will be travelling to the Sault to watch the action, but I’m not sure if any other folks are going.
The community and district wishes both rinks all the best at the provincial showdown.

Amy Shute, the youngest daughter of Norm and Iris, has been doing a great deal of travelling for the last month. She toured Thailand and Laos, then returned to Canada for only a few hours at an airport before flying to Chile.
Amy’s time in Chile is work related. After having spent many years pursuing her career as a geologist, her high grades and work ethic allowed her to be chosen by the Geology Society of the world to go there.
Amy, who spend much of her early years in Devlin, will graduate in May with her Master’s degree. Congratulations on this great accomplishment!

On a sadder note, Norm Shute has been in the hospital for a few days.
Friends and family from our community send you wishes and prayers that you’ll be home soon!

Jim also spent many years in Burriss.

Lindsey (Norris) and Jeremy Oster welcomed the arrival of their first child—a baby girl—on Christmas Day.
Lindsey spent some of her earlier years in Burriss with parents, Brad and Ev, and also sister, Holly (who, ironically, also was born on Christmas Day).
Congratulations to all, including paternal grandparents Ken and Elaine Oster.

Robin’s 2¢:
Two guys collide in a supermarket. “Sorry about that,” the first guy says. “I’m looking for my wife and I guess I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
“I’m looking for my wife, too,” the second guy says.
“Maybe I can help you,” the first guy says. “What does your wife look like?”
“Well, she’s a tall redhead with big green eyes, long suntanned legs, and a bright smile,” the second guy replies. “What does your wife look like?”
“Never mind,” says the first guy. “Let’s look for yours.”
