It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Spencer announce his passing on July 29, 2025, at Atikokan General Hospital. He was born on May 2, 1987, in Fort Frances.

Left to mourn his passing is his mother Karen Kabetay and father Dave Spencer; fiancé Chantelle Menson; his two brothers Donald and Curtis Copenace; and his nephews Hunter Copenace, Ben   Copenace and Echo Copenace.

Michael spent his entire life at Seine River First Nation enjoying fishing for walleye in the Seine River. Michael enjoyed being outside either on his scooter in the summer or on his snowmobile in the   winter.  He was an Ottawa Senators fan and would follow their wins and losses during the season. He loved music whether it be dancing along, playing or just listening.

A traditional wake was held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. with traditional service on Wednesday, August 6, at 10:00 a.m. both at Seine River First Nation Gymnasium. Elder George Boshkaykin officiated.

Pallbearers were Waldan Spencer, Steve Spencer, Chris Spencer, Gerald Johnson, Eathen Whitecrow and Bryan Kabatay. Honourary Pallbearers were Patrick Kabatay, Roger Whitecrow, Eric Perrault and Michael’s family and friends.
