Town looking for new treasurer

The Town of Fort Frances is looking to hire a new treasurer as Diane Pearson will be leaving the position as of July 11 and moving away.
“I’m going to work for the Town of Black River-Matheson,” said Pearson, who took the job here in November, 2000 after moving from North Bay.
“I’ll be CAO/treasurer there, so it’s a step up,” she added, noting she starts her new job in August.
Black River-Matheson is located on Highway 11 about a half-hour drive east of Timmins. It has a population of about 3,700, but is spread out over a large area, Pearson noted.
She said a significant factor in taking the job was geography as the move puts her closer to her side of the family in North Bay, and to her husband’s family in Kirkland Lake.
Also moving with her are her 10-year-old twin daughters, Erica and Samantha, and 19-year-old son, Andrew. “They don’t want to leave—I’m the bad guy,” remarked Pearson.
“But I will miss everybody. I enjoyed the community. My family really liked the community,” she added. “People were very friendly. And we had a great team in the finance department.”
Pearson’s resignation officially was announced at Monday evening’s council meeting, at which time councillors noted she was a valuable asset to the town staff.
“Thank you very much for everything you’ve done,” said Mayor Glenn Witherspoon. “To put it in simple terms: You have been a bright light.”
The town currently is accepting applications for the position of treasurer. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 20 at 4:30 pm.
Pearson is the second prominent Civic Centre staffer to leave in the past two months. Former Operations and Facilities manager Pat Hickerson resigned and worked his last day in early May, relocating to a job as an engineering consultant in British Columbia.
The town has advertised to replace him.
Superintendent of Works (Facilities) Bruce Spottiswood has assumed this role until a replacement is hired.
