Emo residents must adhere to a bylaw restricting the non-essential use of water drawn from the municipal system between May 15 and Sept. 15.
Residents living south of the railroad tracks may water their lawns, wash their cars, etc. on even days while those north of the tracks can do so on odd days.
It is recommended to water in the early morning or evening.
The bylaw includes a penalty clause in the amount of $300 for those persons who don’t follow the set schedule for using water for non-essential purposes.
As of June 1, all Emo residents are required to have an identification card—to be presented at the Emo landfill site—in order to dispose of garbage.
Without a card, non-resident tipping fees may apply.
Each household will be issued one laminated card to be placed in the window of your vehicle. To receive your 2003 identification card, stop in at the municipal office.
Pets, especially dogs, running around at large was an issue quite a few years ago and once again has re-surfaced in 2003. The municipal office advises that all dogs within the township must be registered with the township and have a Township of Emo dog tag.
To register your pet, come to the municipal office. The annual dog licence fee is $10, and you must purchase one for each dog you own.
Please remember that dogs must be on a leash at all times when not on their own premises. Dogs are not allowed to run at large with the township.
Dogs running at large may be impounded at the Emo dog pound. The impounding fee is $15/day and every attempt will be made to contact the owner to pick up their dog.
This is why it is very important that every dog owner purchase the necessary dog tag—and arrange for these tags to be worn on your pet at all times.
Emo also has adopted a new recycling program, with Greg and Kathy Stahn of Greg’s Recycling to operate it.
They have provided the community with two large recycling bins to replace the small blue ones that were previously used. These are located at the Emo municipal garage on Canning Lane and at the Emo landfill site.
The following list outlines the acceptable and unacceptable materials that Greg’s Recycling is able to collect:
•Acceptable–aluminum cans, tin cans, newspaper, magazines, office paper, cardboard, and plastics #1, #2, #4, #5, and #7.
•Unacceptable–garbage, styrofoam, juice boxes, milk cartons, glass, and plastics #3 and #6.
Finally, Emo council extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to June Winik for her dedicated years of service as the “Welcome Wagon” co-ordinator.
She has now passed her duties on to Jose Balcewich.
The council needs our input and help to welcome all new residents to our municipality. Please contact the municipal office (482-2378) with names of any new people who have moved to our community.
