Anderson earns wire-to-wire victory

With a two-week itch built up, Ken Anderson wasn’t about to let anybody else scratch their name into victory lane.
Anderson hit the start line in full flight, snatched the lead, and never looked back as he took the checkered flag in the feature race of the Modified division during Borderland Racing Association action at the Emo Speedway on Saturday night.
After finishing third in his heat, the Fort Frances driver timed his burst just before the opening green flag of the 15-lap feature event to explode to the front of the eight-car field.
Three yellow flags—beginning on lap nine—gave the rest of the field the chance to repeatedly close the gap on Anderson, but he didn’t buckle under the pressure and outdistanced second-place finisher Jake Kamm to win by four car lengths.
Gavin Paull finished in third place.
Meanwhile, a fast start led to a quick finish for Emo’s John Bosma in the feature race of the Street division.
Bosma mirrored Anderson by taking third in his heat, then blasting to the lead in the feature.
But as he hit the start-finish line to begin the second lap, Bosma’s car suddenly skidded off the track before coming to rest on to the infield grass, prematurely ending his evening.
Barwick’s Wes Morriseau, who won his heat, took advantage of the opening and grabbed a lead he would not relinquish.
Richard Visser (Emo) and Jeff Wickstrom (International Falls) nipped at his tailpipe the rest of the way, but Morriseau held them off to win by a car length.
And the Mini-Sprints came down to a family showdown, with Kenny Perry Jr. showing no sympathy on Father’s Day weekend by topping his dad, Ken, in the heat before cruising to an easy victory in the feature, with Baudette’s John Wightman finishing third.
Kyle Ridlon of Aurora, Man., second in the division in points coming into the night, didn’t make it through the heat. His car troubles also left him unable to compete in the feature.
Perry Jr., making his debut appearance of the season, had good skills and good luck on his side. After capturing the feature, the young racer popped a chain on his machine while driving his victory lap and needed help to get his vehicle back to the pits.
The updated driver points standings in all three divisions were unavailable as of press time.
