Sight & Sound a perfect 10

A combination of power and pitching have Sight & Sound hanging 10.
The top squad in the Rainy River District Fastball League maintained their early-season dominance, posting another pair of victories last week to improve their mark to a spotless 10-0.
Don Copenace earned the win on the mound while Ed Vold homered as Sight & Sound topped Rainy Lake 5-2 on June 10.
Then two nights later, Copenace helped out offensively as he stroked one of three round-trippers for his team against hurler Sheldon Kelly in a 10-2 thumping of Big Island.
Duane Carlson and winning pitcher Harvey Flamand also went deep for Sight & Sound against losing pitcher Will Handorgan.
Flamand leads all pitchers with a 5-0 record so far this season, with Rainy River’s Murray Armstrong close behind at 4-1. Warren Voth of Sight & Sound and Kyle Langlais (Pinewood) both are at 3-0.
Meanwhile, Vold, Copenace, and Carlson are tied for the league lead in homers with four apiece. Voth is only one behind in a five-way tie for second with Jim Chorney and Don Gall (Rainy River), Langlais, and Kevin Gemmell (Barwick).
In other RRDFL action June 10, Rainy River routed Stratton 28-1 as Gall drilled three homers while Chorney added a pair. Murray Armstrong, who also went deep, pitched the victory over Stratton’s Jeff Kreger.
Big Grassy downed Big Island 12-9 as Bob Andy outpitched Carl Big George Jr. for the win. Andy and Jeff Morrison had homers for Big Grassy while Handorgan replied with one of his own for Big Island.
Pinewood beat Barwick 10-4 as Langlais outduelled Matt Gamsby on the mound. Gemmell had the lone homer of that contest.
In the only other game held June 12, Rainy Lake nipped Barwick 6-5 as Kelly beat Gamsby in the pitching match-up. Gemmell homered in a losing cause.
Sight & Sound leads second-place Rainy River (5-1) by 10 points, although Rainy River does hold four games in hand. Pinewood sits third at 5-2, followed by Rainy Lake (3-4-1) and Barwick (3-7).
Big Island (2-6-1) has a one-point lead over Stratton (2-6) and Big Grassy (2-6), who are tied for last place.
Last night’s action included Sight & Sound visiting Rainy River, Big Island at Barwick, Pinewood at Big Grassy, and Rainy Lake in Stratton. Scores were unavailable as of press time.
Then tomorrow night (Thursday), Stratton heads to Barwick, Pinewood is at Big Island, Sight & Sound hosts Big Grassy, and Rainy River travels to Rainy Lake.
