Work on the Chapple lighthouse is progressing well, with the retaining wall (containing blocks from the former Barwick Hotel) now almost complete.
Thanks is extended to Glen Jackson, Norm Hyatt, Dave Hughes, Peter Borger, and Nathan Darrah for cleaning the blocks so they could be used again.
There still is some time to purchase bricks, which cost $100 each, in your name or in memory of someone. If you are interested, contact Kathy Nugent at the Barwick Restaurant or call Rilla Race at 487-2655.
Chapple council would ask that if you are down by the waterfront checking out the lighthouse project, remember it is a construction site and is posted accordingly.
For your safety and our protection, please do not go on this site.
This year, Chapple Days will be held Aug. 8-9. The Friday evening will be a night of music, a bonfire, and wiener roast at the Both farm, north of Barwick next to Sturgeon Creek School.
Saturday will see activities at the Both farm from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., then from 2-5 p.m. events will taking place at the waterfront, followed by a 5 p.m. dinner at the hall.
The museum will be open on the Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. Keep watching for more info on Chapple Days.
A school reunion will be held next summer in conjunction with Chapple Days (slated for Friday, July 30 to Sunday, Aug. 1).
Anyone planning to attend any of the meals provided, or the Saturday evening’s entertainment, must pre-register. Registration forms are now available by contacting Rilla Race at 487-2265.
Please let your friends and families know of this upcoming event. More info will be forthcoming in September.
Everyone is reminded the Chapple museum will be open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. during July. For the rest of June and the month of September, the museum only is open Fridays and Saturdays (same hours).
Meanwhile, Chapple Heritage is looking for photos of the following: Richardson #15 school (building only if possible), Orange Hall in Barwick, and the original Richardson-Sifton school (built on the former George Haney property).
Contact Rilla Race if you can help out.
Just around the corner, a mini parade will be held next Tuesday (July 1) starting at noon at the municipal office parking lot. All participants are asked to assemble one half-hour before the starting time.
There will be a fastball tournament, with a canteen available.
Volunteers are required to help co-ordinate children’s activities. If you can help, call the municipal office (487-2354) or Heather (487-2253).
Birthday cake also will be available that day.
In other news, Chapple council would like to compliment the residents of Barwick on how nice the yards look with all the flowers, trees, shrubs, and ornaments.
Let’s challenge our neighbours to help with the beautification of the village by mowing, picking up brush and debris, and arranging for the removal of derelict vehicles.
This shows pride in your community.
At this time, Chapple council would like to say a big thank you to Emily Hyatt, who has given up her position on the planning advisory committee. If anyone is interested in filling this vacancy, call the municipal office (487-2354).
Finally, Ontarians are entitled to know about the quality of the water they consume. If your water is supplied by the Barwick water treatment plant, then you may contact the office for a free quarterly report of water testing results.
