Sight and Sound wins battle of bigshots

Rainy River wanted to make a statement, but Sight & Sound wasn’t in the mood to listen.
Pitcher Warren Voth earned the win as Sight & Sound stretched its lead atop Rainy River District Fastball League with a 9-5 win over second-place Rainy River last Tuesday (June 17).
Duane Carlson moved into a tie for the league home run lead with his fifth of the season for Sight & Sound while Grant Swire also went deep for the victors against losing pitcher Murray Armstrong.
In other action June 17, Stratton escaped the basement with a 5-1 win over Rainy Lake, led by the pitching of Curtis Berg and a home run from Colin Heyens.
Percy Legarde was saddled with the loss for Rainy Lake, with Sheldon Kelly’s solo homer accounting for his team’s only offence.
Sight and Sound then ran its season-starting winning streak to 12 last Thursday (June 19) with a win by forfeit over Big Grassy.
That same night, Rainy River got the better of Rainy Lake by a 3-2 margin, with Armstrong outduelling Kelly on the mound.
In other action June 19, PInewood beat Big Island 6-4 while Kevin Gemmell belted two homers to tie Carlson for the league lead during Barwick’s 13-0 romp over Stratton.
Sluggers Ed Vold and Don Copenace (Sight & Sound) are tied for second with four homers while four others are tied with three apiece.
Heading into action last night, Sight & Sound (12-0) led Rainy River and PInewood (both 6-2) by 12 points, while Barwick (4-7) was in fourth.
Rainy Lake (3-6-1) sat in fifth position while Stratton (3-7) was sixth. Big Island (2-7-1) held down seventh, with Big Grassy at the bottom (2-7).
Last night’s schedule featured Big Island at Rainy River, Barwick visiting Big Grassy, Sight & Sound on the road in Stratton, and Rainy Lake travelling to Pinewood.
