Horseshoe heavers in local action

The sound of metal on metal was ringing through the air during a pair of local horseshoe tournaments recently.
Pat Stillan from International Falls won the singles division of a June 29 competition, with Dale Ross from Fort Frances finishing second, and Jim Ysen of International Falls taking third spot.
In the doubles category, Stillan and partner Louis Duhamel took first place, with Sandy and Gord Calder from the Falls finishing second, while Ysen and Ross teamed up to grab third.
Joe and Judy Klem from Atikokan were fourth, while Earl Klyne and Kelly Calder from the Falls wound up in fifth.
In a Canada Day doubles tournament that featured best-of-three matches, Stillan and teammate Fred Gosselin captured top prize, while Roger Williams and Dennis Bruyere finished in the runner-up spot.
