Fun-filled nights planned for derby week

Those who don’t get their fill of chills and thrills during the daytime hours of the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship will have plenty of chance to satisfy their appetite during a series of action-packed evenings under the big top at the Sorting Gap Marina.
On the Monday of derby week (July 21), a MuchMusic teen dance will be held, with admission costing $5. Then a “Battle of the Bands” competition, offering free admission, will ensue on the Tuesday (July 22).
The winner will have the opportunity to open for veteran Canadian rock act Harlequin on the Friday night (July 25).
On the Wednesday night (July 23), the annual “Quest for the Best” local singing competition, organized by the Fort Frances Fort Chamber of Commerce, will take place.
An adult-oriented show by popular hypnotist Tyzen will follow. Tickets for the evening are $12 in advance or $15 at the door (includes both shows).
Meanwhile, country music fans will be delighted by the double bill on the Thursday (July 24) as local group Milestone, followed by Doc Walker, one of Canada’s fastest-rising country groups, take to the stage.
Tickets again cost $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
The Friday evening (July 25) kicks off with an all-ages show by Tyzen, followed by the “Battle of the Bands” winner and topped off with Harlequin. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
Then the week-long derby concludes on the Saturday night (July 26) with the reggae/Latin/calypso sounds of Carabello, with admission set at $10.
Three-night packages for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows also can be purchased in advance for $30 (a $10 savings over the “at the door” prices).
All advance tickets are available at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce office on Scott Street (across from Safeway).
