‘Community Chest’ golf fundraiser a success

Local golfers braved hot weather last Friday afternoon in an effort to raise money in a charity golf fundraiser for the “Community Chest.”
And their efforts won’t go unnoticed.
“We ended up raising close to $3,000 for the Community Chest,” said George Blanc. “It went really well.
“We ended up with 65 golfers,” he added. “That’s a little less than we hoped. It was extremely hot.”
Blanc noted an abnormal number of golf events in the last couple of weeks, along with the hot weather, probably accounted for the lower turnout, though they weren’t disappointed with the participation.
He said the date was “difficult” and that it might be “more successful” on another one.
“This was the first of what we hope to be an annual charity golf tournament,” Blanc announced, adding that a new earlier date might be tried for next year’s fundraiser.
Local businesses helped make the charity a success by donating prizes.
“I would specifically like to thank Jim MacDonald at MacDonald Motors,” Blanc said. “He put up a vehicle for a hole-in-one prize. Unfortunately, nobody one.”
He also said Sunset Country Ford also donated $5,000 in golf equipment as a hole-in-one prize that went unclaimed.
“Ted Brockie, at Brockie’s Jewellers, was as always very generous,” Blanc added.
“The main organizer was my daughter, Joelle Blanc,” he beamed, adding “she did an excellent job almost single-handedly.
“She secured the job for next year,” he joked.
