Local slo-pitch playoffs underway

Playoff action for the local adult mixed slo-pitch leagues got underway last night.
The Tuesday night standings at the end of regular-season play saw West End top the ‘A’ bracket, followed by the Rural Reps, Rockets, Gillons’ Allsorts, Manitou, and Bay City Rollers.
In the ‘B’ bracket, it was the Little Rascals leading the way, with FUBAR in second and Ed Kaun & Sons in third. Rounding out the teams were Stanji, the Night Hawks, and Rumors.
As such, last night’s first-round action pitted #1 vs. #6, #2 vs. #5, and #3 vs. #4 in each bracket (scores were not available as of press time).
Today at noon at the Memorial Sports Centre, the three winners were to cut for a bye to the Tuesday night championships in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ brackets, which are scheduled for Aug. 19 at 6:45 p.m. at the Central and South diamonds, respectively.
The Tuesday ‘A’ bracket semi-final (pitting the two losers of today’s cut) will be held Monday, Aug. 18 at 6:45 p.m. at the North diamond, with the ‘B’ bracket semi-final to be played at VanJura.
The losers from last night’s action are done for the season.
In Wednesday night play, the Spuds topped the ‘A’ bracket standings, followed by Weechi and the Master Batters. Rainy Lake Realty topped the ‘B’ bracket, with 18C Connectors second and Shade third.
That league’s first-round playoff action goes tonight at 6:45 p.m. with the 18C Connectors meeting Shade (Central) while Weechi squares off against the Master Batters (South).
The leading teams in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ brackets earned a bye to the Wednesday night championships slated for Aug. 20 starting at 6:45 p.m.
The Spuds will play the winners of the Weechi-Master Batters game (South), with Rainy Lake Realty meeting the winner of the 18C Connectors-Shade battle (Central).
The losers from tonight’s action go home.
Finally, in the Thursday night league, the Beer Batters topped the ‘A’ bracket, followed by Normiska, Prop Shop, Team Spirit, the North Air Benchwarmers, and SNAFU.
In the ‘B’ bracket, it was the Clippers taking top spot, followed by Johnny V’s, Silver Bullets, and GI Janes and A Couple of Joes.
Playoff action for that league gets underway tomorrow night at 6 p.m. with Normiska vs. North Air (South) and the Clippers against GI Janes and A Couple of Joes (VanJura).
Action at 6:45 p.m. pits the Beer Batters vs. SNAFU (Central) and Prop Shop against Team Spirit (North). The lone game at 8 p.m. will feature Johnny V’s vs. Silver Bullets (South).
The winners from the ‘A’ bracket will cut for the bye to the league final (slated for Aug. 21 at 6:45 at the South diamond) on Friday at noon at the Memorial Sports Centre.
The losers of the cut will play in the ‘A’ semi-final next Tuesday (Aug. 19) at 6:45 p.m. (North) for the other berth in the final.
The two winners in the ‘B’ bracket will advance to the final Aug. 21 at 6:45 p.m. (Central).
The nightly champs from both brackets then will cut for a bye to the overall championship finals—slated to be held Thursday, Aug. 28 at 6:45 p.m. (Central and South)—on Friday, Aug. 22 at noon at the Memorial Sports Centre.
The losers of the cut will play in their respective bracket semi-finals on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 6:45 p.m., also at the Central and South diamonds.
