Summer hours at the Emo Toy Library will end Aug. 31. The first week of September will be drop-in only, with fall programming beginning the week of Sept. 8.
Playground will be offered Thursdays and Fridays from 10-11:30 a.m. at the ETL. Children up to age six, together with their parents/caregivers, can enjoy an hour-and-a-half of free play, circle time, craft, and snack.
The centre will provide craft materials and beverages. Parents/caregivers are asked to provide their own snacks.
Another program being offered at the ETL this fall is Story Hour. Children and their parents/caregivers are invited to join them for a story and craft on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2-3 p.m.
“Dad & Me,” being offered Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. starting Sept. 9, is a chance for dads to interact with their children—and to share tips and stories with other dads.
This is also a good time to give mom a well-deserved break.
Infant Hour, to be held every Wednesday from10-11 a.m., is when children up to 24 months old and their parents/caregivers can enjoy a variety of hand rhymes, songs, and movement activities.
The first session will start on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Beverages will be provided, but please bring along a snack if desired.
And the Kids Craft Club—for ages seven-12—will be held Tuesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. starting Sept. 9. This will include free play, a snack, and craft.
Cost is $1 per child per week and permission forms must be signed in advance. Parents are welcome to come down and join them.
A reminder the ETL is available for birthday party rentals at a cost of $25. This is a perfect set-up for your child to have a great party as it has a fully-stocked play area as well as a separate kitchen area.
The centre also has a variety of shaped cake pans which can be rented out, including Winnie The Pooh, Care Bear, and Mickey Mouse. Call 482-2946 for more details.
The ETL will offer short-term child care Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m. It is able to accommodate five children under the age of 10 at one time, but it only can accept two children under the age of two.
It does not provide short-term child care to children under the age of 12 months.
The cost of this service is $2 per hour per child. Parents can use this time to run errands, attend appointments, or just to have a break.
The ETL once again also will be offering the Canada Safety Council babysitter’s course for children aged 12 and up.
The course, which takes 10 hours to complete, will run for five Saturdays from 10 a.m.-noon beginning Sept. 20 and ending Oct. 18. Cost for this course is $10, which includes a student reference book, wall certificate, and small card.
Call the ETL (482-2946) to register.
Meanwhile, the 1-2-3 Magic program is a behaviour management program geared towards children aged two-and-a-half and up that teaches parents easy-to-use discipline techniques.
1-2-3 Magic was developed by Dr. Thomas Phelan and offers easy-to-follow steps for disciplining children without arguing, yelling, or spanking. It features a video, with discussion to follow.
The facilitator for this program will be Joanne Davis, an Early Childhood Educator from the Child Development Program.
There will be three sessions in total (slated for Sept. 17, Sept. 24, and Oct. 1), with each one running 90 minutes in length. All sessions start at 7 p.m.
Child care will be provided if necessary, and the ETL asks that you sign up in advance as space is limited.
