Heron Landing to see first real test

The new Heron Landing Golf Course at Couchiching will see its first real test next week when it hosts a fundraising tournament.
The fundraiser—to benefit the Borderland Thunder—is set for Saturday, Aug. 30.
“It’s a four person, best-ball scramble,” explained Shawn Jourdain, who is organizing the tournament for the Thunder. “It’s a minimum of 45 handicap for the four.
“I think it will be a good test for everybody,” he added, referring to the first real rounds of public golf on the course.
“The course is looking awesome,” Jourdain noted. “The fairways are getting really close. The tee boxes and greens are there. It’s looking good.”
Organizers are limiting the entry to 20 teams since the course only has nine holes open yet.
“That’s all we can basically hold right now,” Jourdain explained. “We’re filling up pretty fast. We only have eight spots open.
“Anyone thinking about it better do so quickly, then we’ll go to a wait list,” he added.
The entry fee is $300 per team, which will include two rounds of nine holes. “We’ll play the nine twice, with different tee boxes,” Jourdain said.
“It’s a money fundraiser for the Thunder,” he noted. “It gives us a good start to the season.”
He said the prizes include four memberships at Heron Landing for the 2004 year for first place and a golf vacation for four to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for second place (sponsored by International Travel and Valley Builders).
Jourdain also indicated there would be closest-to-the-pin prizes awarded.
