Curling club has room for more teams

The pieces are falling into place, but there’s still room and time for prospective curlers to throw their brooms into the ring.
Monday night’s registration for the upcoming competitive season at the Fort Frances Curling Club drew a good crowd, said president Bill Gushulak, but left open the opportunity to those who couldn’t make it out to still participate.
“I’m guessing most of the teams that didn’t show up either didn’t know about the registration or are still trying to get their teams together,” said Gushulak.
“We’re hoping those people will get their teams together as soon as possible, so we can set the schedule for the upcoming year,” he added.
The curling season is slated to start Monday, Oct. 6.
The 7 p.m. draw in the Monday night men’s league had 10 teams register, with two more being sought. No figures were available by press time for the 5 p.m. Monday twilight ladies’ league.
Tuesdays are reserved for the U.S. league at 6 p.m., while the 8 p.m. slot will be saved for any make-up games that need to be played or for open practice.
The Wednesday twilight men’s league (5 p.m.) has eight teams on board, with room for at least four more, while the 7 and 9 p.m. draws for the Wednesday night men’s league have 13 teams in total, with space for five more.
The Thursday afternoon ladies’ league has seven teams, with at least one more needed.
The Thursday twilight men’s league (5 p.m.) has its 12-team maximum, while the 7 and 9 p.m. draws for the Thursday night ladies’ league has seven teams, with at least one more space needing to be filled.
The 7 and 8:30 p.m. draws for the Friday night mixed league has 14 teams signed up, with room for at least 10 more. The U.S. mixed league will run Fridays at 5 p.m.
The “L’il Rockers” program for younger children will run Saturdays starting at 9 a.m. while the junior program for older youth will happen Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
There also will be seniors’ play at some point in the week, although exact details weren’t available by press time.
