JUDITH MAE MCCOY

September 11, 1952 – January 23, 2025

Judith Mae McCoy (Iverson/Keeler), 72, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., with her loving husband and children by her side.

Born September 11, 1952, in Winnipeg, Man., to William (Bill) and Cora Iverson. Judith would often be found up a tree, with a book, seeking solitude from a noisy house with her six siblings. From childhood, Judith clung to her faith in God. She was a kind and compassionate person who always went out of her way to help others, whether it was picking up a stranger along the road or lending a hand when she saw someone struggling; traits she instilled in her children. She had a smile that would light up a room and a way of making everyone feel welcome. Judith had a rule that the first time you visited you were a guest, every time after that, you were family.

Judith loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. She shared her love of music with her children and would use her many musical and artistic talents to bring joy and strength where it could be tough to find.

As a mother, Judith gave her children the best she could, even through difficult and trying times, creating wonder and magic that made every holiday and event special. While always very proud of her children, she was especially proud of her grandchildren. She would often say that her favourite title was that of “Nana,” and she was definitely the best Nana ever!

Judith is survived by her husband, Brian Thomas McCoy; children Michael (Stacie) Keeler, Daniel (Kate Turner) Keeler, and Heather (Jono) Irwin; grandchildren Mya, Coen, Shelby, Kaleb, Travis, and Everett; siblings Grant (Marlene) Iverson, Linda (Bob) Reed, Pam (Dave) Riley, Cindy (Norm) Brandson; and special family friend Isaac Stromness. She was predeceased by her parents William (Bill) and Cora Iverson; as well as her brothers Jim and Frank (“Skip”) Iverson.

Judith’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the ICU team at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (especially to Evan “Almighty”), as well as the staff on the first and second floors of La Verendrye Hospital for their exceptional support and care.

The family will be gathering privately to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation in her memory.

While Judith will be greatly missed, her legacy of love will live on through all that knew her.

Rest well, good and faithful servant.
