More now than ever before, women must get out and vote. Our voices must be heard.
As Status of Women Officer for the local OSSTF District 5B executive, I received information about election concerns and issues from the Ontario Federation of Labour Women’s Committee.
Here are some of their questions they pose to the candidates. Have you received adequate answers to these questions?
1. If elected, would you commit to increased funding for pap smears, mammograms, and bone density scans?
2. Are you in favour of reinstating funding for anti-violence programs?
3. Is fully-funded and strong human rights legislation for women in Ontario a priority?
4. Do you believe that a living wage is a basic human right and would you substantially increase the minimum wage?
5. Will your party restore the billions cut from our school system since 1995 and ensure that adequate funds and resources are available for our children’s education?
6. If elected, would you bring back rent controls and stronger protection for renters?
7. Will your party recognize early childhood education and care as a core public service and regard it with the same status as health care and education?
If any of these above issues are of concern to you, please make sure you get out to vote for the candidate who can best bring about the change you wish to see.
