Allan Yerxa’s executive decision to bowl his best at clutch time turned out to be the right choice.
Yerxa won the President Division at the 2003 Zone Executive Championships in Dryden on Sunday with a +98 (pins over average) to edge Garry McKinnon of Atikokan by 13.
His triumph earned him a berth in the provincial championships in Thunder Bay on March 4-7.
Carey Basaraba finished sixth in the division with a score of +7.
In the Secretary Division, Bryan Stoiber took the title with a +142 to defeat fellow Dryden bowler Norm Sanders by 30 pins.
Kayne Shaw was the top local entrant in that category, placing fifth with a score of minus-five.
Ernie Matthews of Dryden dominated the Treasurer Division with a final total of +207, finishing well ahead of runner-up Lisa Sanders from Dryden (+119).
Shirley Jensson was the lone Fort Frances participant, coming in sixth with a minus-three total.
The executives weren’t the only ones rolling their way to good times as 29 teams matched strikes in the Zone Hi-Low Doubles Championships that same day in Dryden.
Host teams swept the top three spots, with Lisa Sanders and Rob Wickstrom claiming first place with a +250.
Sheila Engel and Terry DeLaronde were second (+233), followed by Ebbe Kruger and Ron Matysio (+195).
All three twosomes also advance to Thunder Bay for the provincials the same week as the executive tournament.
Of the six Plaza Lanes teams involved, Yerxa and partner Lori Pattison had the best showing with a seventh-place result (+125).
Dave Bonke and Dave Robar came in eighth (+116), Jean St. Germain and Wilma Yerxa-Bird were 10th (+66), Ed Larocque and Jim Chabot took 11th (+51), Barb Pegler and Terry Wood finished 14th (+nine), while Tracy Isaac and Tammie Basaraba were last (minus-209).
