Fort Frances council passed a motion Monday night to name citizen appointees to various town committees for the term running Dec. 1, 2006-Nov. 30, 2010.
The various committees, including the council reps previously named at the Dec. 4 inaugural meeting, are:
•Accessibility Advisory Committee—Jennifer Cawston;
•Children’s Complex Advisory Committee—Debbie Bazylewski, Shauna-Leigh Carlson, Tracey Booth, and Linda Wall;
•Museum and Cultural Centre Advisory Committee—Bruce Caldwell, Owen Johnston, Janet Plumridge, and Sandra Tibbs;
•Recreation Advisory Committee—Dan Cooke, Dan Cousineau, Jim Cumming, Elaine Fisher, and John Rafferty;
•Fort Frances Public Library board—Joyce Cunningham, Arlene Georgeson, Mark Kowalchuk, Connie Schwartz, Alan Zucchiatti, and Couns. John Albanese and Tannis Drysdale;
•Sister Kennedy Centre board of management—Marjorie McTaggart, Nellie Shybyski, Al Wickstrom, Nick Wihnan, Mary Clinker, and Couns. Paul Ryan and Albanese;
•Theatre Management Advisory Committee—Marlene McQuarrie and Coun. Sharon Tibbs;
•Traffic Safety Advisory Committee—Gus MacDonell and Kayne Shaw;
•Town of Fort Frances Police Services Board—John McTaggart, and Couns. Tibbs and Rick Wiedenhoeft;
•Economic Development Advisory Committee—Bill Gushulak, Gary Rogozinski, Jim Cumming, Teresa Hazel, Alan Tibbetts, and Coun. Drysdale; and
•“Citizen of the Year” selection committee—Bill Gushulak, Mark Kowalchuk, Mayor Roy Avis, and Coun. Tibbs.
Town clerk Glenn Treftlin said yesterday more members are needed for the museum, accessibility, and children’s complex committees.
Any citizens interested should contact museum curator Pam Hawley, Community Services manager George Bell, and children’s complex superintendent Phyllis Kellar, respectively, regarding those positions.
In other business Monday night, council:
•directed that a bylaw be prepared to merge the town’s committee of adjustment and planning advisory committee;
•agreed to buy 10 tickets to the Team Canada Legends vs. Hopper’s Bruins fundraiser hockey game and donate the tickets to Family and Children’s Services;
•agreed to buy four tickets to the Alzheimer Society’s Chefs’ Charitable Dinner and Auction here Jan. 21;
•agreed to sponsor $250 to the Women’s Health Symposium;
•approved a travel expense claim for CAO Mark McCaig in the amount of $83;
•received minutes of settlement for a request for reconsideration of assessment at 1019 Third St. E.; and
•awarded the tender to supply flowers to the Parks and Cemetery department in 2007 to Hammond’s Landscaping.
