More than 1,000 people gathered to make the walk from the Point Park to the St. Marguerite Indian Residential School Memorial on Monday, September 30, 2024, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconcil- iation held across Canada. The walk was part of a week of events put on by a multi-agency committee, which also helped organize a flag raising at the Fort Frances Civic Centre, dinner for elders and residential school survivors, and a drum social. The walk began with drum songs and a traditional ceremony, and included members of the public as well as busloads of students from area schools. Once the walkers had made it to the Nanicost grounds, they were treated to lunch, followed by a powwow organized by Grand Council Treaty #3 and Agency One, which lasted well into the evening.
