Emo ringette squads settle for silver

The Emo Novice, Tween, and Belle ringette teams hosted their annual tournament at the Emo Arena earlier this month.
In the Novice final, Emo faced a much-improved Dryden squad, who jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead in the first half on goals by Gregory Olson (two), Rikki Shields (two), Jeremy Olson, and Dayna Olson.
Sammie Myslicki, Angel Nixon, and Jessica Mauro replied for the Bandits.
In the second half, Dryden kept up the pressure—notching four more goals off the sticks of Dayna Olson (two), Cassidy Hoedl, and Shields
Myslicki, Nixon, and Mauro all scored their second goals of the game for Emo but it was not enough as Dryden won 10-6 to capture the gold medal, leaving the Bandits to settle for silver.
Atikokan wound up in third place after earlier falling to Dryden 11-8.
The Emo Bandits had won their first two games, first beating Dryden 9-7 on goals by Sammie Myslicki (four), Nixon (two), Destiny Woolsey (two), and Mauro.
The Bandits then dumped Atikokan 12-0, with Myslicki again proving to be the main offensive weapon—this time netting five goals. Rio Devin (four), Nixon (two), and Woolsey rounded out the scoring.
The Tweens, in their title match, played extremely well against rival Thunder Bay but could not match them in the scoring department, falling 8-4 to also settle for the silver medal.
Thunder Bay had jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first half, with both teams scoring three times in the second. Carlee Bosma led the Bandits with a hat trick while Sarah Hoskins netted their other goal.
Madison Nevly led Thunder Bay with six goals, with Mallory Nevly adding the other two.
The Tweens also started the tournament on a winning note, beating Atikokan 9-1 on goals by Bosma (four), Rylee Nixon (three), Nicole Smith, and Hoskins had singletons.
Then Emo dumped Dryden 12-2 In their second game. Bosma again led the Bandits, this time scoring seven goals, while Smith netted a hat trick. Nixon tallied twice to round out the scoring.
In their third game against Kenora, Emo scored three goals in the first half, then added five in the second, en route to an 8-1 victory.
Bosma rifled home four goals, with Smith, Jaycey Ewald, Nixon, and Heather Williams adding singles.
Emo’s lone loss during the round-robin came at the hands of Thunder Bay, which skated away with a 5-3 win. Bosma was a one-girl wrecking crew, netted all three Bandits goals.
Madison Nevly (three) and Mallory Nevly (two) sparked the victors, who also had earned easy wins over Atikokan (10-0) and Kenora (11-0) during round-robin play.
And in the Belle final, a much-improved Emo Bandits gave Dryden all they could handle but still came out on the short end of a 5-1 score to settle for the silver medal.
Dryden had jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Kari Elyk and Laine Helbins before Mandy Lahti netted Emo’s lone goal. Then the second half was all Dryden as Amanda Hoedl, Elyk (her second), and Samantha Renaud scored to seal the gold medal.
The Bandits had opened their run for the title by blanking Kenora 2-0 on goals by Lahti and Riley Ogden.
Then in their second game against Thunder Bay, Ogden and Lahti each scored twice, and Malarie Woolsey added the other, as Emo skated to a 5-3 victory.
Hannah Sandberg notched both Thunder Bay tallies.
But it was a different story against Dryden, who upended the host Bandits 3-1 on goals by Elyk, Hoedl, and Nikki Gamble. Woolsey netted Emo’s lone marker.
Drydens other victories were over Kenora (5-2) and Thunder Bay (2-1).
