Carruthers named Emo’s top senior

Ella Carruthers is the recipient of the Township of Emo’s “Senior of the Year Award” for 2003, sponsored by the provincial Ministry of Citizenship.
Carruthers has been a very active senior citizen in the community, and has generously given her time and energy to community service and volunteerism.
She is always willing to help shut-in residents by providing them with transportation to appointments, to the bank, grocery store, or wherever they need to go.
Carruthers also often provides shut-ins with her home-baked goods, especially her homemade buns.
One of the first things that comes to mind about Carruthers is that she is always willing to lend a helping hand.
She has led a very busy life raising a family of 11 and teaching school for more than 40 years. She always has had a very kind heart for the youth in the community, meeting their needs before her own, and has touched the lives of many children.
Her volunteer years have included participation in the Women’s Institute Museum, the Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society Board, the Emo and District Hospital Auxiliary, and the United Church.
During the years Carruthers was employed as a home care worker, she was extremely dedicated to her clients—spending many extra hours over and above caring for these people.
