Full circle

Dear sir:
When I left my home town of Fort Frances back in 1999, I left angry and defeated because I was at NCDS every day looking for work. I could not find work in my own community, so I had to leave Fort Frances in order to do so.
I had made a full circle as I ended up in Fort Erie, Ont. working for the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre as the alcohol and drug worker. I never had any idea that I would end up back in Fort Erie because I used to live here years ago, when my sons were small, and I did volunteer work at the centre.
When I applied for the job, the hiring committee wondered if this was the same Lila that had done volunteer work years ago—sure enough it was. So, do not think your volunteer time is useless.
To make a long story short, I am now working but what about the anger? What about the rejection that I felt from my own community? I turned it over and went on. Sure, I still get lonesome and do come home and visit once in a while, but God shows me, I am right where I am suppose to be.
I recently received word that it has been approved that I am certified as a alcohol and drug counsellor through the Ministry of Health. And I am also in training to be certified as a gambling addictions counsellor, so see, I am right where I am suppose to be.
I share this because sometimes we blame people for our misfortunes in life, but hang in there because our God has better things in store for us.
I have no idea when He will say, “Okay, Lila, time to go home.” When He does, I will be back, but right now, I read the Times online and keep up with the happenings.
Meegwetch for letting me share this experience and I hope it may help someone back home who is discouraged and feels cheated! Love you all.
(Signed),
Lila Bruyere
