Emo Atoms enjoy perfect week

Local Atom teams went three for three in Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association action this past week.
First, the Emo Hawks sidelined their arch rivals, the Emo Leafs, by a 3-0 margin. Matt Sigurdson led the way with a pair of goals while DJ Mosbeck netted an insurance marker in the third.
The in their second contest, the Hawks tallied four first-period goals en route to a 7-1 romp over visiting Causeway (Fort Frances).
Mosbeck (two), Robby Rea, and Matt Sigurdson gave the Hawks the early 4-0 lead. Brandon Benjamin and Joe Kellar each scored in the second, before Sigurdson netted his second in the third to round out Emo’s scoring.
Jeff Gustafson spoiled the shutout bid with just over one minute left in the game.
Finally, the Emo Esso Leafs had no pity on their Esso counterparts from Fort Frances, skating over a 8-4 win over the visitors.
Jared Hebert sparked the offence with a hat trick while Devin Meyers, Ryder Woolsey, Tyson McLean, B. Bauer, and Tyler Friesen all added singles.
Quesnel, Roy, and Johnson (two) replied for Fort Frances.
In PeeWee action, the Emo Cobras skated away with two wins, including a 5-0 whitewash over Green’s Predators (Fort Frances).
Kurtis Hill and Matt Boven led the way with two goals each while Keith McTavish added one goal and two assists.
Then in their second game against Lake of the Woods, the Cobras scored twice in each of the first and third periods for a 4-1 victory.
Hill and James Saunders each had two markers for Emo, with Ryan McDowall and B. Jonassen drawing assists. Adam Nelson hit the twine in the second for LOW, assisted by Braeden Beller.
Finally, the Oddfellows (Fort Frances) surprised the host Emo Predators, skating home with a 3-1 victory.
Matt Beck opened the scoring for the visitors in the first, with Matt Hebert added a second-period tally. Tyson Grinsell, assisted by Mitch Carlson, later made it 3-0.
Matt Beacham, assisted by Charlie DeBungie, netted Emo’s lone goal with just over a minute left in the game.
