Former cop speaks at men’s breakfast

A retired Winnipeg police officer who found Christ 35 years ago through revival meetings led by Pastor Bill McLeod, was guest speaker at the monthly men’s breakfast last Saturday morning at the Emo Legion.
Bruce Day, who now works with the Union Gospel Mission in downtown Winnipeg, reminiscenced a little about the mission and the work that has developed there.
“As you know, we have been serving the ‘Least, the Last, and the Lost’ for 70 years,” noted Day, adding they serve 300 a day with food as well as provide some clothing and showers.
They have 22 men living in residence who are recovering from addictions, with two chaplains serving their needs.
“We have two chapels a day giving the Gospel to the people arriving for meals,” said Day, adding their Family Life Centre on Pritchard Avenue serves mainly single moms and children.
They also have an adult literacy program, evening clubs for children, and Bible studies during the week for the ladies.
Married for 35 years, the Days have two grown married daughters and five grandchildren, all of whom are following the Lord.
Day was hired as director of development for the UGM two years ago and mainly is the lead person with the media.
He gave his life to Christ 35 years ago. “I have a devotional time with my Lord each and every day and have done so for over 30 years,” he noted.
About 40 people were on hand Saturday morning to hear Day’s message.
