Voyageurs National Park staff continues to check winter ice thickness and trail conditions within the park.
Inadequate ice for any form of travel was found within the park on Monday (Dec. 18). Ice of variable thickness has been located within 50-100 yards of all visitor center boat launch ramps.
As such, travel on frozen lake surfaces within Voyageurs National Park remains hazardous and unsafe.
Meanwhile, the continued lack of appreciable snow cover has prevented grooming of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails in the park.
The Blind Ash Bay, Sullivan Bay, and Oberholtzer trails are open for hiking only.
