The investigation into the threat allegations at Fort Frances High School, which started on Dec. 3, is nearly complete. There still are a couple of investigations to complete.
The investigation is being case managed by the Fort Frances OPP’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
Roughly 10 officers have assisted with the investigation.
The OPP’s investigation is being conducted to determine if any criminal offences have been committed or if there are any threats to any person’s safety.
There has been no information received that substantiates any threats against any person or group within or outside of the high school.
The OPP is investigating some unrelated matters that have been brought to our attention during the investigation.
Since Dec. 3, we have had an increased presence in FFHS.
Investigators have been there conducting interviews with students, and they also have been walking around the school and speaking to students and staff.
There will be a permanent police presence at the high school on the last day of school prior to the holidays tomorrow (Dec. 22), and we have been working with principal Gord McCabe to ensure we continue to play our part in keeping the school safe in the future.
We continue to maintain the Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in Grades 3 and 6, and deliver a similar program to Grade 10.
The Grade 10 program focuses on promoting respect and responsibility, and includes components on peer pressure and bullying.
