Fort High to stage musical showcase

The stage is set for a one-time musical showcase at the Townshend Theatre tonight featuring the talents of local high school students.
The tickets are printed, the advertising is complete, and the acts are secured. For the students of the Grade 11 Marketing class, their job is almost done.
As part of their credit program, the class was to plan, organize, and stage an event or sell a product.
They chose a musical showcase.
“It was totally their project,” said teacher Char Bliss. “It was their culminating project in marketing.
They chose to do the music show.”^She added the students had to do everything to get ready for the show.
“They had to market the show,” she explained. “They were in charge of advertising, promotion, doing posters [and more]. They were in charge of all of it.
“They were to learn a lot of work goes into marketing,” she continued.
“Like the organizing of little aspects, from tickets . . . to writing radio announcements.”^Bliss said everything they had to do with their year-end project was learned in class first and so this was the application of those learned skills—putting the lessons to practical use.
“It’s kinda like a review [for them],” she remarked.
The show starts at 6 p.m. and will run for about two hours. All the performers are high school students.
“Sarah Hebert is singing,” Bliss said, adding several other singers also are lined up. “We have a couple of bands, too.
“We have about seven different performers who are doing a couple of pieces, songs each,” she noted.
“We have some country, some alternative, some pop music.
“It’s kinda a wide range. We tried to have something for everyone.”^Tickets cost $4 per person, with all proceeds going to Rainycrest Home for the Aged here.
“One boy in the class works there,” Bliss said, adding that was one of the reasons to choose it as the benefactor.
“We have students with relatives in Rainycrest and the proceeds stay in the community,” she noted.
