OLW, Mine Centre top volleyball tourney

Eighteen teams participated in a regional elementary school volleyball tournament at Crossroads in Devlin on the weekend.
In girls’ action, Our Lady of the Way captured the gold medal, with Mine Centre taking the silver and St. Francis winning bronze.
Sturgeon Creek earned the award for most sportsmanlike play.
In the boys’ tournament, Mine Centre took the gold, followed by Robert Moore (silver) and St. Francis (bronze).
Riverview won the award for most sportsmanlike play.
“I felt that the level of play, teamwork, and sportsmanship were excellent,” said Nancy Mapledoram-Councillor, a teacher at Crossroads.
“All the coaches and players are to be commended,” she added.
Tournament organizers thanked Ray Allam, Allison Hyatt, Brian Love, and Rick Wiedenhoeft for their officiating, as well as the high school students who volunteered their time as minor officials.
They also thanked Brad Gushulak for his support in helping to set up the tournament.
