Backus group hosting talent contest

The deadline for an international talent show being organized by the Citizens for Backus/AB has been extended to next Thursday (July 31).
This inaugural show—featuring acts ranging from vocal and instrumental to drama, comedy, and dance—is slated for Thursday, Aug.
7 at 7 p.m. in Backus Auditorium in International Falls.
“We’re looking for music, comedy, magic, you name it,” said Margarett Patnode of the Citizens for Backus/AB. “If you can do it we want it.
“We stress it doesn’t have to be musical,” she added. “It can be a [drama] skit or monologue. Dancing would be great.” Contestants will be divided into two age groups (age five-12 and 13 to adult). First place in each group is worth $150 (U.S.), with second place taking home $50 (U.S.) Entry fee is $20 (U.S.), and the show is open to the first 15 paid entrants in each age group.

“It’s not too late,” said Patnode.
“We’re looking for lots of acts.
“We would welcome Canadian entrants,” she added.
All participants will be given rehearsal time at Backus on Wednesday, Aug. 6 starting at 7 p.m.
Acts must supply their own accompaniment and musical instruments, if needed. The auditorium will supply the sound system, a CD and tape player, four microphones, mixing board, and a sound technician.
