It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne Gerard MacIntyre announce his passing on March 2, 2024, at LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Wayne was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, to Dan and Catherine Ann MacIntyre, growing up amongst siblings Greg MacIntyre (Olds, Alta.), Joan McNeil (Glace Bay, N.S.) and Danette MacIntyre (Fort Frances, Ont.). He was a proud Cape Bretoner all his life and believed that he couldn’t have picked a better place to grow up.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Laureen MacIntyre; his sons, Terry (Brenda) of Quesnel, B.C.; Michael (Christina) of Halifax, N.S.; Dan (Brittany) of Winnipeg, Man.; and his five grandchildren Madison, Jacob, Leo, Colt and Bodie. He is also survived by his large extended family, too numerous to mention, whom he treasured his relationships with.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents and Gail MacIntyre; his first wife and the mother of his sons.
Wayne and his young family spent time in various places (Canmore and Innisfail, Alberta; Barrie, Big Trout Lake, Sioux Lookout, and Fort Frances, Ontario) and he had a variety of work experiences. He was most proud of his time in policing and he worked with the OPP until his retirement in 2017. Details of his career and comments can be found on the Fans of the Ontario Provincial Police facebook page.
Wayne enjoyed spending his time staying in touch with his boys and watching their movements through life with great pride. He also enjoyed hunting with his Cedar River crew, motorcycling with good friends (ride on!) and travelling with his wife. His lifelong passion, however, was music. He was immensely talented and loved to share his talent with others; he inspired more than a few to pick up an instrument or sing a tune.
Wayne wished that in lieu of flowers and donations, in keeping with his life passion, his memory would best be honoured by spending time with family and friends and sharing the gift of music; listen to a tune together, dust off an old instrument, support a local musician, sign up yourself, a child, or a loved one for a music class. At Wayne’s request there will be no service at this time.
Arrangements entrusted to Northridge Funeral Home Ltd., Emo, Ontario.
And, finally, in Wayne’s words: “The best way you can honour my memory is to love and support each other, live your best life and be happy. Be kind and do the right thing.”
