The family of Noreen Robertson announce her passing at the age of 91 at her residence on February 22, 2024.
Noreen was born in Carmen, Manitoba, on November 29, 1932, to parents Kenneth and Pearl (nee Abbott) Rogers. She was united in marriage to Calvin Robertson in 1952 and they had three children; Susan, Dale and Don.
Left to mourn her passing is husband Cal Robertson of Fort Frances; son Don (Sandra) Robertson of Fort Frances; sisters-in-law Bev (Denis) Busch of Fort Frances and Harriet Robertson of Victoria, B.C.
Noreen also leaves behind granddaughter Karrie (Darren) LeCraw of London, Ontario; grandson Steve (Cheryl) Robertson of Sunderland, Ontario; granddaughter Laura (Travis) Lichti of Jarvis, Ontario; her great-grandchildren are Reid and Birch LeCraw, Ella Robertson, Tyson and Leah Lichti.
She was predeceased by her parents Ken and Pearl; brother Norman (who died in infancy); and brother-in-law Murray Robertson. Also predeceased by son Dale in 1980; and daughter Susan just a few short weeks ago.
She loved their cabin at the lake in Morson, travelling there almost every weekend from May to September from whichever town they lived in which included Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Atikokan, Emo and Fort Frances. If they weren’t at the cabin in the summer you could probably find her in the stands watching a fastball game almost anywhere in the District. She enjoyed watching the games that Cal was umpiring.
Noreen had a particular passion for curling, playing the game in her younger years and then watching in later years. She spent many winter weekends travelling to watch Regional, Provincial, National and World championships. She rarely missed a televised game of the Brier or the Tournament of Hearts.
Among her greatest accomplishments outside of her family was the development of the Riverwalk Condominium. She was an integral part of the original Board of Directors and was involved in concept, planning, promotion and oversight during construction. They were the first residents of the Condo and despite all the work required and obstacles to overcome, she was proud to say she had a hand in creation of this property which has become quite a valuable community asset.
She had a passion for working in the community and in particular with the hospital auxiliary. She was a past president of the LaVerendrye Hospital Auxiliary. She also served a term as Provincial Hospital Auxiliary President, a position which brought with it a seat on the Ontario Hospital Board. This work took her to many parts of the province and put her in contact with many auxiliaries and health care agencies. She was a Life Member of the Ontario Hospital Auxiliary as well as the LaVerendrye Hospital Auxiliary.
Arrangements for memorial services are pending. Internment will occur in Rainy River Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, as per the family’s wishes, donations may be made to the LaVerendrye Hospital Auxiliary, Rainycrest LTC Auxiliary or to the charity of your choosing.
