Sioux Lookout man killed in accident

A Sioux Lookout man was killed in an accident last Tuesday night (Dec. 23) on Highway 72 involving a moose and a second vehicle.
Sioux Lookout OPP identified the victim as Michel Levesque, 53.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. about six km north of Dinorwic when the northbound vehicle Levesque was driving swerved to miss hitting a moose that had entered the highway from the west ditch, police said.
The moose and vehicle collided, with Levesque’s vehicle then colliding with a southbound vehicle, police added.
Noella Levesque, 53, a passenger in the northbound vehicle, was taken to the Dryden Regional Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries.
She was listed in serious but stable condition at last report.
Meanwhile, all six occupants of the southbound vehicle, driven by Johnnie Bates, 28, of Dinorwic, also were taken to the Dryden Regional Health Centre, police reported.
The driver and one other occupant then were transported to McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay, where they were listed in stable but serious condition at last report.
The other four occupants were released from hospital, police said.
The accident closed Highway 72 for about six-and-a-half hours, police noted, adding an investigation is ongoing.
