Individuals interested in starting their own business are welcome to attend a free seminar on the subject here next Tuesday (Jan. 13).
Angela Halvorsen, a business investment officer with the Rainy River Future Development Corp., will lead the seminar, which is the first of 12 to be held once a month throughout 2004.
“The demand for my services has really increased,” Halvorsen remarked. “As opposed to having people come to my office individually for three hours, we can inform several people at the same time with these seminars.
“There’s a lot of people looking for self-employment these days,” she noted.
Tuesday’s seminar will take participants from the idea stage to the implementation stage, informing them on the basics of how to do a business plan and how to conduct your market research, said Halvorsen.
It starts at 6 p.m. at the RRFDC office (608 Scott St.) Exact dates and times for the other monthly seminars have yet to be determined.
Anyone interested in signing up for this or future “How to Start a Small Business” seminars can call Halvorsen at 274-3276. Seating is limited.
In related news, Halvorsen said a three-part workshop for owners of existing businesses is scheduled for Jan. 20, Jan. 27, and Feb. 3.
The cost is $50 per person to attend all three, which deal with bookkeeping and financial statements, lending and cash flow, and financial planning and financial ratios.
These will be led by a hired consultant, and include input from local experts in the field of business.
All three will run from 6:30- 9:30 p.m. at the RRFDC office.
This is the third in a series of workshops aimed at existing businesses.
The previous two—focused on marketing and management— were held last year.
