Clothing drive to benefit the needy

FORT FRANCES—Staff and students at J.W. Walker School are holding a clothing drive this week in preparation for a sale there this Thursday.
“Our goal is to reach the people that could really use the clothes,” said teacher Keira Chown.
The school is accepting donations of all sorts of clothing, including winter coats and boots.
The items collected then will be sold at the “In the Spirit of Giving Clothing Sale” at the school on Dec. 7 from 4-8 p.m.
Chown said they had wanted to give the clothes away for free, but felt “a lot of people wouldn’t come if it was free.”
Instead, people can come in, fill a bag with items they want, and make a small donation for the whole bag.
“A small donation could be as little as 50 cents,” Chown noted.
Proceeds from the sale will go towards Walker’s breakfast program.
The goal of the sale is not to make a profit, but to make sure everyone has warm clothes to wear this winter.
“Everyone is welcome,” Chown stressed.
Any unsold items will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Thrift Shop.
