Reports held off for TV viewers

Council rescheduled oral division activities reports that were supposed to be given at Monday night’s council meeting by the four executive committee chairpersons to Sept. 13.
This was due to the fact Shaw (Channel 10) is not broadcasting council meetings for the months of July and August, and council felt the purpose of the semi-annual executive committee reports was to inform as many people as possible of town activities.
And that’s best done through all possible media, council felt.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, council:
•ensured administration be given the authority to submit grant applications prior to the July 16, 2004 deadline to the Ministry of Natural Resources under the “Bear Wise” program (this will see grant money for the purchase of bear-resistant containers for the town);
•denied a request to provide sponsorship to the Fort Frances High School athletics department and Muskie Touchdown Club for an exhibition hockey game this fall (this followed a recommendation from the Administration and Finance executive committee);
•denied a request to make an in-kind contribution (rental of the Townshend Theatre) to the Rainy River Watershed Program for a community presentation during the ManOMin Watershed Conference next March (this followed a recommendation from the Administration and Finance executive committee on the grounds it is against town policy to make in-kind contributions);
•agreed to write off five accounts receivable balances (with a total of $806.38) on the grounds the accounts be marked in such a way that the organizations and individual in arrears no longer are permitted to charge goods or services on account; and
•declined to support a resolution from the City of Windsor with regards to privatization of the assessment function and the capping of residential increases.
