Drysdale appointed to Ontario Parks board

Fort Frances Coun. Tannis Drysdale was notified last week that she’ll be sitting on the Ontario Parks board of directors for a three-year term.
“It should be interesting work,” she said Friday.
“Provincial parks are crucial to the promotion and furthering of tourism in Ontario,” Coun. Drysdale added. “Throughout Northwestern Ontario, provincial parks provide the opportunity for other people, from southern Ontario and the United States, to see the beauty of the region.”
Also appointed to the board by Ontario Lt.-Gov. James Bartleman were chairperson Ronald John (Ron) Vrancart of Toronto, Ronald J. (Ron) Nisbet of Mississauga, Gerald Killan of London, Lorraine Brown of Leith, David G. Earthy of Toronto, Lynn Arnold Cox of Pickle Lake, Jennifer East of Killarney, David Edgar of Sault Ste. Marie, and Stewart Elgie of Ottawa.
The purpose of Ontario Parks’ board of directors is to provide advice on planning, management, and development of the provincial park system, including, but not limited to, such items as development of annual business plans, marketing strategies, capital development programs, and fees.
They also must advise on other matters such as policy and program direction as requested by Natural Resources minister David Ramsay.
The board meets at least four times a year, but Coun. Drysdale said she hasn’t heard yet when the first meeting will be.
Coun. Drysdale also sits on the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce executive (as past president), the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce (as an ex-officio rep of NOACC), and the Business Advisory Committee for the Rainy River Future Development Corp..
As well, she sits on numerous committees related to her position as councillor, such the Fort Frances Public Library and Sister Kennedy boards, and the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association’s board of directors.
