Pinewood Sports saved the day for Lindner team

Daniel and Ron Lindner (Team #128) hadn’t even begun fishing on Day One of the tournament when they hit a rock going through a narrow pass.
“We hit a rock that we knew was there, bent the whole propeller, broke half the skag off. Pretty much broke the lower unit,” said Daniel. “Imagine being towed in from there? The day would’ve been shot.”
“I knew where the rock was, I’d passed it a hundred times,” added Ron. “Nobody to blame but me, I made an error in judgment. Also, I had a GPS (Global Positioning System) track which I erased yesterday to take me right through there.”
Ron said he figured at that point that the day was over for them, but the fishing gods were keeping a close watch on them and sent help in the form of tournament flag boats.
“It was really nice. All the people in the flag boats, they stayed with us the whole time—they didn’t leave our side,” said Daniel. “It was like a wing man, they just stayed and made sure we were safe. They didn’t drop the ball at all.
“It just goes to show how well run a tournament this is.”
Then they radioed into Pinewood Sports and Marine who sent John Holt—Ron’s favourite field mechanic—out to fix the boat in the water.
They waited three hours for help to arrive and in that time they took a limit of fish.
Holt said that from the time he touched the motor to fix it until the time he washed off his hands was maybe 15 minutes.
“It’s just part of the job. But I told them that if they won, I get 10 percent,” said Holt, laughing.
The Lindners were extremely grateful, and credited the flag boat and Pinewood Sports with saving their day.
The pair eventually went on to place 12th in the tournament with their three-day total of 42.48 pounds.
“I want to absolutely congratulate these people [flag boat team and Pinewood Sports] because I was dead in the water. I figured, ‘I’m finished,’ you know,” said Ron. “Unbelievable.”
