The latest installment in the Rainy Lake Impressions series, a new art exhibit opens at the Fort Frances Museum today featuring the work of local artists.
This year’s show is called “Put it on Paper,” and the theme of the works is Rainy Lake.
“Paper is the medium. It can be painted on paper, made of paper, or photographs,” noted museum curator Pam Hawley.
The choice of paper as the medium was in honour of the 100th anniversary of the paper mill here this year.
Abitibi-Consolidated is also sponsoring a cash prize for the people’s choice.
“People are encouraged to come in and pick their favourite piece,” Hawley said.
There are about a dozen pieces that have been submitted for the exhibit.
“There are some really interesting ones that have come in,” she noted.
Hawley has also prepared some early diaries describing Rainy Lake for the exhibit.
“These people put it on paper, too,” she noted.
The 2004 Rainy Lake Impressions exhibit opens tonight at 7 p.m. and runs until Saturday, Sept. 4.
