Abundant beauty

Aristotle once said, “In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.”
But how often do we rush through the day without taking a moment to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us?
As we all well know, Northwestern Ontario is home to some of the most picturesque scenes in the country. Well, Fort Frances, too, has taken great strides of late in the beautification department—and now we have an opportunity to showcase that on a national scale through “Communities in Bloom.”
The Canada-wide contest is a positive approach intent on fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification. Last week, two judges from “Communities in Bloom” were in town, getting a first look and offering suggestions to the mayor as part of our learning year before we officially enter the contest.
And they had nothing but good things to say.
It is always interesting to hear what fresh eyes see when coming here for the first time. They often are quick to comment on those very things we sometimes take for granted, from the scenic La Verendrye Parkway and our beautiful cemeteries to the strong sense of community pride and involvement.
Next year, Fort Frances will enter the “Communities in Bloom” contest—a worthy contender against municipalities nation-wide.
So take a look around you. Then take another look. Beauty is abundant right here in our backyards. And working together, we can make us shine even brighter.
