Winning the war

Dear editor:
Winning the Liberal leadership by Quebecer Stéphane Dion might have fooled many television viewers on Saturday, as well as the delegates at the convention.
But after the results of the second ballot were announced, it was obvious that Dion was going to be the new Liberal leader.
My assumption for picking him to win was when Gerard Kennedy forfeited his chance. Being relatively close to third-place Dion, Kennedy could have gone on to the third ballot. Instead, he gave his support—as well as his delegates—to Dion.
To me, the contest was over without having to bother going to the third and fourth ballots. Kennedy’s move definitely was the turning point in the outcome of the Liberal leadership race.
It was pure manipulated strategy to continue the trend of keeping the power within the province of Quebec, where it has been since Lester B. Pearson’s reign as prime minister of Canada.
As previously mentioned in a past letter to the editor: Montcalm might have lost the battle to Wolfe on the Plains of Abraham, but he definitely is winning the war.
